The podrace announcer from The Phantom Menace seems to be an obscure, yet memorable character! Known as Fode and Beed (I really don't know which is which.....) this two-headed character called the play-by-play for the Boonta-Eve podrace on Tatooine. References for making this custom were obtained through seeing the Phantom Menace numerous times (6 so far) and my freeze-framing the TV show "From Star Wars to Star Wars", where two extremely short clips were shown.

This custom is made from a CORPS figure, turned upside-down and backwards. The legs are now the two necks, and an extra set of arms were added to the torso (extracted from a Race Bannon figure from the Jonny Quest set).

All four arms are articulated. The necks, head, vest and headpieces are all made from sculpey. The antenna is made from a paper clip, and the headset cord on the left-sided head is a single strand of picture hanging wire, coiled to scale by wrapping over a needle and then removed. The hair is a lock of my own hair! (Well, they say there is a bit of the artist in their work....this time it's literally true!).

The Boonta-Eve Podrace booth they are sitting in was made from a KFC bucket (yes, a Star Wars one that was too greasy to add to my collection...) which was covered in paper mache and sand, then painted for that weathered look. Gadgets and such are placed close to the actual props used in this scene.

You'll notice that the winning vehicle is displayed on their monitors behind them.

AWARD WON:
I was thrilled to win a customs contest in the Star Wars Galaxy Collector magazine with this custom! If you have Issue # 8, look on page 34 for this:
