BACK

This fellow is called a "Krayt Dragon" a native inhabitant of the planet Tatooine. In A New Hope, this character is only seen when Threepio comes across one's skeleton, shortly after landing in the escape pod from the Tantive IV.

As well, Obi Wan Kenobi mimicked this giant lizard's frightening roar to scare off the Tusken Raiders from ransacking Luke's speeder.

This representation of a young member of the species was begun with an aluminum foil armature, completely covered in sculpey. After balancing the figure, details such as muscles, veins, horns, tail "fins" and skin folds were added. The scaley skin was achieved by rolling an old "Bossk" arm (which was lopped off for my Cantina Dude custom). You see! Never throw ANYTHING away! You never know when it may come in handy (get it! HANDy!)

The scaley arm was just right to imprint the lizard's skin. I next took the largest roaster I had, filled it with water, and brought it to a boil on the stove. After removing it from the heat, I laid the figure in the water and turned it gently to "cook" the entire figure (I had never done such a large piece before...)

Painting just took a few hours, with a mixture of green and black, and yellow and orange for the eyes.

He is very fragile, so he will grace my Tatooine diorama, safely in the background.
