2008
The 25th anniversary of ROTJ
All five ornaments for 2008 were from Return Of The Jedi (as it was its 25th Anniversary).
The first "Magic" ornament was entitled The Final Confrontation by Kristina Kline-Gaughran. Measuring 4' wide, 2" deep and just over 3" tall, it depicts the epic duel between Luke and Vader. When the button is pressed, a blue light is activated behind Vader as three different sets of dialogue begin: Button Press # 1: Luke:
"Your thoughts betray you Father. I feel the good in
you. The conflict." Button
Press # 2: Luke:
"You couldn't bring yourself to kill me before, and I
don't believe you'll destroy me now." Button
Press #3: Vader:
"Obi-Wan has taught you well." Price: $ 28.00 US / $ 36.99 CDN
The second "Magic" ornament that year was the Imperial Shuttle. With movable wings, this ship was sculpted in intricate detail by Robert Hurlburt. With fully extended wings, the ship measures nearly 5" across, 2.5" deep and almost 5" tall. When the button under the base is pressed, the back of the ship lights up in blue and The Imperial March plays. It should be noted that this "Magic" ornament uses different batteries from most of its predecessors: it requires three of the smaller 1.5V LR-41 Button Cell batteries; previous ones mostly called for 1.5V LR-44 Button Cells. Also, you have to unscrew the battery compartment to install the batteries, even though the instructions on the box flap indicate to "depress the closure tab near the center of the battery cover and pull." Price: $ 32.00 US / $ 44.96 CDN
The Series ornament for 2008 was Emperor Palpatine from Return of The Jedi, sitting in his Death Star throne. Sculpted by Kristina Kline-Gaughran, this was the 12th in the Star Wars Series line and measures 3" wide, 3" deep and about 3.5" tall and is surprisingly light for its size. Price: $ 15.00 US / $ 19.99 CDN
The Miniatures line also reappeared in 2008 (there were none in 2007): The Death Star and Star Destroyer from Return of the Jedi. The Death Star measures a bit over 1" in diameter, and the Destroyer is nearly 2" long and 1" wide. There is no mention of who the Keepsake Artists are for these ornaments. Price: $ 15.00 US / $ 19.99 CDN
The final one for this year was the second "Limited Quantity" ornament: The Emperor's Royal Guard. Sculpted by Kristina Kline-Gaughran, this figure was issued in limited quantities at the Keepsake Ornament Premiere event in July of 2008. Featuring a velvety-textured red robe he measures just over 4" tall. Price: $ 15.00 US / $ 19.99 CDN
