2010

The 30th anniversary of ESB

2010 marked the 30th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back, so it only made sense that all five Hallmark Star Wars ornaments depict scenes, characters and a ship from Episode Five.

The "Magic" ornament this year was His Master's Bidding, a 4" wide, over 3" deep and 3.5" tall diorama of Vader kneeling before the holographic visage of The Emperor. Sculpted by Kristina Kline-Gaughran, this uses three 1.5 volt LR-44 Button Cell batteries. When the button is pressed, a three lights from below illuminate the hologram as the following dialogue is heard:

Button Press #1:

Vader: "What is thy bidding, my Master?"
Emperor: "There is a great disturbance in the Force. We have a new enemy."

Button Press #2:

Vader: "If he could be turned, he would become a powerful ally."
Emperor: "Can it be done?"
Vader: "He will join us or die."

Button Press #3:

Vader: "He's just a boy."
Emperor: "The Force is strong with him. The son of Skywalker must not become a Jedi."

Price: $ 32.95 US / $ 44.99 CDN

A second "Magic" ornament was also out; this time a Rebel Snowspeeder. Sculpted by Robert Hurlburt, it measures approximately 4 inches square. The highly-detailed ship features ship and blaster sounds with Luke's commands to his squad:

Button Press #1:

"Alright boys. Keep tight now. Steady. I'm coming in."

Button Press #2:

"That armor's too strong for blasters. Rogue Group. Use your harpoons and tow cables. Go for the legs. It might be our only chance to stop it."

Button Press #3:

"Watch that crossfire boys. Stay tight and low. This is it. Ahhh! I've been hit!" (The sound of the ship going down.)

Price: $ 28.95 US / $ 36.99 CDN

Fourteenth in the Series, Luke Skywalker X-Wing Pilot is a wonderfully detailed sculpture by Kristina Kline-Gaughran. Sporting a blaster, his saber hilt hanging from his belt and even a hose from his chest plate to thigh, he is a really nice likeness. I also prefer that the hook clip is positioned behind, rather on top of, his head.

Price: $ 14.95 US / $ 19.99 CDN

The "Limited Quantity" ornament for 2010 was Lando Calrissian. Dressed in his blue suit and cape, this is a nice action pose of the Cloud City mining colony administrator. At 4" tall, this is a fairly heavy sculpt by Robert Hurlburt. This was the fourth ornament released in limited quantities at the July Keepsake Ornament Premiere event.

Price: $ 14.95 US / $ 19.99 CDN

A set of 2 Miniatures also came out this year: Boba Fett (measuring 2" tall) and Han Solo Carbonite (at 2.5" tall). For such a small size, these are sculpted in fine detail by Robert Hurlburt.

Price: $ 14.95 US / $ 19.99 CDN

Master Yoda and Captain Rex are the two miniature ornaments for 2010, the third time characters from The Clone Wars television show have been featured. Sculpted by Tracy Larsen, Yoda wields his green saber and stands about 1.5" tall, while Captain Rex has both blasters at the ready, standing approximately 2.5" tall.

Price: $ 14.95 US / $ 19.99 CDN

Hallmark once again offered an Exclusive Star Wars ornament at this year's Comic Con; this time the droid two-pack of K-3PO and R-3PO from The Empire Strikes Back. Sculpted by Kristina Kline-Gaughran, there were only 1000 sets available for sale.

Price: $ 30.00 US
